The Inside Scoop

From the Inside Out will have many interpretations as each artist brings her own ideas into this overarching theme; e.g. Rio, has a new body of rust print work, Core, that involves imagery evoking the core of the earth, or the core of the inner self. Elizabeth's handmade paper constructions attempt to capture the essence and remnants of the 19th century tin mines and china clay pits as seen still today from the air, through the earth and across the moors.

From the Inside Out also describes how eco printing and rusting processes work. Pat’s shibori rust fabrics are pipe wrapped, with string being the last item added. The rust prints outward from the surface of the pipe up through multiple layers of silk over a period of time. Similar things happen with eco dyeing as leaves and flowers, etc. are buried deep inside tightly folded bundles; or shibori stitched into felt, then steamed or simmered and finally cured for a few weeks before opening as Irit does. Irit's bark texture felt is an homage to the transplanted eucalyptus trees that have put their roots deep into the soil of Israel. The imagery is buried and waiting, like Fabienne’s memories and emotions, to bubble to the surface.

In this dialogue with Nature, I get sometimes results beyond anything I could have dreamt of painting. By letting go of the illusion of control, more is realized.
